Oh, Joe, I wish you could see the original elder's version! The young (most likely "inexperienced") elder who feels compassion for Mary, who quickly took her aside into another room (though being alone with her! Gasp!) and who even touched her arm (oh no!! More gasp!) and who showed more compassion than the other two idiot drones, was the elder who was in the wrong.

After all, according to JW indoctrination, (though this is never said in the elder's version) now that she is newly single, and so emotional to boot, this makes her very dangerous in a Jezebel/harlot sort of way. She probably can't wait to commit fornication due to her lonliness and extreme emotions, being such a weak, fragile female vessel.

The brothers must continually be on guard -- these "desirable" men, these glorious ones, these strong, experienced fountains of wisdom, these stars in Jesus' right hand -- who can't be alone with a sister, even in a little room at the Kingdom Hall, while people are right outside the door, for even a single moment.

They must ever be on the lookout for SIN - and emotions all out of hand like this - are simply another matter to be on guard against.

Gah, I can't keep on with this shit.

Thank you, Joe. And yes, I can read between the lines of "diplomacy". I hear your Samaritan friend saying, basically:

1). As a professional, there is no way in hell she would ever use such an approach!

2). These elders are basically " blaming the victim" and making her feel worse by being condescending, know-it-all, and superior -- NOT helpful!! - (If someone says, "You're NOT HELPING!", what do they mean? I would take this to mean that they are saying, "You are being harmful!")

3). Making her feel even more burdened and guilty by making these extreme feelings of grief be a "sin" -- NOT helpful! Meaning again, that they are being HARMFUL!

Joe, I feel your anger and outrage. And am so sorry for what your family went through.

This stuff from the WT cult is dangerous. Stupid, clueless WT, harming people over and over again, especially to people who need comfort the most!!

I would be very interested in knowing what that Samaritan organization says about this video.

The elder's don't even mention her husband and probably their friend, too. No happy memories to laugh and cry about (what happened to "mourn with those who mourn, weep with those who weep..."?) -- just stupid smarmy smiles and utter, utter cluelessness. No compassion for people, even for their dead friend, who probably had a 2 minute mention about his service record for the organization at his "memorial" talk.

Onward to full cult control. Remember Job! Memorize a couple scriptures! Repeat some useless mantra. Pour on more guilt. Don't provide any practical help or aid.

And "thank you, Jehovah!" - she has cookies! - even if she is feeling like she's losing her mind. Those two scriptures and that mantra should really help her. And if she does happen to succumb to "sin" and commit suicide, well, at least the elder's did all they could. Too bad she died unfaithful and did not keep integrity after all. That ole Satan has claimed another one....

I feel your anger, Joe, and outrage. This is totally irresponsible "shepherding" and "taking care of the flock."

I couldn't believe this video when it first came out -- is there a link to the original elder's version? It has a few more parts but this version keeps most of the stupidity and dangerousness of uneducated men posing as mental health counsellors.

I think in the elder's version, there were two examples given on how to help this sister -- 1) WHAT NOT TO DO, and 2) the "correct" version of how to help this sister. (And to think, this is the "correct" version!!!)

In the "What NOT To Do" part of the elder's video, they had a brother all by himself talking to Mary, at the Kingdom Hall. He even *touched* her by putting his hand reassuringly on her arm, and then, asked Mary to go into the little room off the main auditorium so they could talk (or maybe he touched her arm while they were alone in the little room together). Anyhow, THAT was the very very wrong & incorrect thing to do -- being **alone** with this grieving sister -- in a room off the main auditorium of the hall, even though it was right after the meeting, with people still talking & visiting each other in the kingdom hall.

Also, in the original elder's version, there are some very hard and cold looks that Mary gives to "Brother Brown", I will call him. The older, smarmy smiling brother I will call "Brother Grey".

You see a bit of this vibe between Mary and Brother Brown when he says he is going to give her "an assignment" - memorize two insipid bible verses. Did anybody else catch this bad vibe? It's like the sister herself cannot believe the terrible advice she is being given.

I feel a really bad vibe between her and Brother Brown. She just looks at him really coldly and with a lot of disgust or anger. When she looks at Brother Grey, you can see she is trying hard to act her part to be upset, but Brother Brown gets a lot of cold, hard looks.

I remember noticing this in the original elder's version of this. Does anybody have a link to that video?

I have too much crap!! How to declutter/dehoard.....

and other rooms are just junk and clutter and clothes and papers.... omg.

and now that we are getting older, we realize that we face a time of transition -- and this is hard to cope with too, as we believed the lie that we would never get old, etc.

Something must be done, and Blondie, the 4-box method sounds very practical and helpful, and just might work. I like the thought that clutter is a decision not made.

I am not quite at hoarder stage, but I do have a tendency to buy more than one thing -- for example, if I am learning about something, anything, (yoga, dog training, photography, etc.) I end up buying a million different books on the subject.

Great Teacher, I would love to hear more of your advice and suggestions. Your situation with mom in law sounds very frustrating indeed.

Esse, I like your idea too and we have started to do some of that too! :)

Paragraph 9, thank you. It reads so badly, such florid, purple prose! Just look at the adjectives and adverbs: "... hinder... vicious, famished... no compassion, no remorse, no pity... devour... lurking... succumb... tragic... immoral, greedy..."

And the climactic, alliterated statement: "... the roaring lion, revelling in his conquest."

Geez.

okay, i'm about to engage in a major word vomit.

just giving you fair warning as your time may be better spent somewhere else.. so, i'm sitting on my lunch break, bawling my eyes out, and writing on this forum to people i don't know yet probably have a great deal in common with but at the same time, used to scare the daylights out of me.

for years, i would come across this forum and 'lurk' awhile if you will, or see things on youtube.

I only saw this post in a sidebar link, missed it the first time. I see no feedback or responses from you..... Are you okay???

Everything everyone said to you is also what I want to say to you. This is hard shit. But you do have many good things going for you -- though I know it can be difficult to focus on the good, on the strengths, on the potentials and opportunities....

Maybe try looking at it this way: A lot of people move away from family and friends when they come from other countries.... they have to cope with lonliness and meeting new friends, and perhaps they have no money and can't speak with their families for long intervals...

They are "alien residents" -- (you never completely let go of the JW crap, but you can turn it around and even laugh at it some days!) -- and just like those foreigners, you too have become "an alien resident" (or a person of the nations.... ugh...)

Anyway! Whatever the context, if you are the alien resident in a "new country"/ in this "world" -- the big bold bright incredible world, filled with opportunities & adventures and unknowns -- You HAVE A DEGREE!! Praise the gods, alleluia, thank the ether: YOU HAVE A DEGREE!!!

This wonderful amazing thing means that you have many doors of opportunity open for you!

I know nothing can replace or take the place of family, but in making good choices now and making best use of any and all opportunities, you can slowly build a life and good friends and colleagues.... And maybe one day, there will come a time when the blinders peel away from your family and they will come looking for you... And you will have made yourself, and them, proud.

And now that we are getting older, we realize that we face a time of transition -- and this is hard to cope with too, as we believed the lie that we would never get old, etc. Well, retirement years are facing us and we need to downsize and figure out how the hell we're going to live and survive, etc. No plans for the future (other than the "real life to come" - the stupid f**king paradise!!!). So, because we were idiots, we now have to face things we never thought we would face.

So this really sucks.

It doesn't help that I stuffed our home full of mostly useless crap. Gah! How does one purge their stuff?

It was easy to get rid of JW crap and clothes.... but gosh, is very difficult to get rid of other stuff and things. Ack!
